Roosevelt Care Center Seeks Formal Wear Donations

July 1, 2004 -- Several times a year Roosevelt Care Center (RCC), a long-term care facility in Edison, hosts an "Evening of Elegant Dining" for its residents. On Thursday, July 22, at 6 p.m., the RCC auditorium will be transformed by staff and volunteers for “A Night in Venice.” Residents will be transported to an elegant restaurant in the sumptuous city of Venice, complete with romantic candlelight, fine china and silverware.

This popular event, which includes a gourmet meal and entertainment, also allows the seniors to do something they don't often get to do --- dress up in fancy attire.

RCC is accepting donations of ‘gently used' cocktail dresses, evening wear and men’s suits, costume jewelry, handbags, scarves and other accessories for its residents to wear in order to make sure each resident can participate in the experience.

"We can dress up and have a social evening," said Llona Merel, president of the RCC Resident Council., a regular at the

event. “It is more than a good meal - it’s like attending an elegant ball."

“The residents look forward to this event. It raises their spirits,” said Frank Damiani, RCC administrator and COO and perennial volunteer waiter at the events. “The benefits and joy it brings our residents far outweigh the costs required to produce it.”

To donate formal wear or accessories, please contact Joanne Franklin at (732) 321-6800, ext. 387.
